New GPSR Guidelines: Online Sellers Required to Provide Manufacturer Details and Appoint EU Representatives

The forthcoming updates to the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) will place new responsibilities on businesses selling products online. From December 2024, online sellers must disclose detailed information about the manufacturer, including their physical address, to enhance consumer safety. Moreover, if a product is sold within the EU but produced by a non-EU manufacturer, the seller will be required to appoint an EU Authorised Representative to handle product safety concerns.

These updates aim to strengthen consumer protection and accountability in the digital marketplace, ensuring products sold online meet EU safety standards. Businesses are encouraged to act now to comply with the regulations and avoid any penalties. For a more detailed breakdown of these new obligations and how they affect economic operators, check out our article GPSR: Responsibilities of Economic Operators in Distance Sales on this site.
